What is The G20?
It is an Important Forum for International Economic Policy Coordination The G20 provides a platform for the United States to engage directly with the world’s largest advanced and emerging economies to promote U.S. interests and meet global challenges.
G20 members account for more than 80 percent of global gross domestic product, three-quarters of global trade, and two-thirds of the world’s population.
The agenda of the G20 has broadened since the 2008–2009 financial crisis and this is the first meeting of G20 Leaders to include political and social issues that intersect with relevant economic interests.
In 2023, India is hosting the G20 Meeting in New Delhi, India.
3 Things which USA plans to do this year
- Dedicate $13.5 billion in U.S. humanitarian and food security assistance since February 2022. The Black Sea Grain Initiative is an example of this effort. It ensures Ukrainian grain can reach the global market and aims to bring down food prices down for everyone.
- Tackle Oil Shortage by releasing 180 million barrels of oil from our strategic reserves to maintain supply to the global market and stabilize prices, with partners releasing another roughly 60 million barrels.
- Under the new U.S. strategy, the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) will invest $1.28 billion annually to support more than 325,000 health care workers who deliver HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment programs across countries like Ukraine, Asia
